The Foreign Correspondents' Association of Southern Africa strongly criticises the arrests of Zimbabwean journalists Frank Chikowore and Samuel Takawira while carrying out their duties.
While we are pleased to see they have been released on bail, we believe these are spurious charges and urge Zimbabwe's prosecutors to withdraw them immediately.
We further encourage the state to remind its officials that a free and independent media is a cornerstone of good governance.
